May 13-15 in Chicago, IL, I joined BGC staff from across the country and BGCD 2014 Youth of the Year Cecilia Garza for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference. This year, the conference focused on five distinct focus areas: Leading Impact with topics in child safety and program planning and measurement; Resource Development & Marketing; Board Engagement; Organization & Talent Development; and Dialogues that facilitated discussions on issues relevant to the Club. BGC Alumnus and author of Good to Great Jim Collins gave an inspiring keynote address.
Throughout the conference, the focus remained on serving our members and community. Maximizing resources and providing quality programming is the hallmark of Boys & Girls Clubs. In addition to providing tools to advance our local Clubs, the conference underscored the importance of engaging the community and local leaders. The highlight of the conference was celebrating the induction of DPSG President & CEO Larry Young to the BGCA Alumni Hall of Fame. Larry is a friend and longtime BGCD supporter, and there is no one more deserving of this honor.
While it is always great to see fellow BGC professionals, I am eager to get to back to work growing our programs and serving even more youth in the Dallas area.
