As the summer starts to wind down, and we start to gear up for another school year, I am thrilled to report that BGCD experienced the largest daily attendance in years topping nearly 1,300 members a day! It has been a fantastic summer in the Clubs including fun-filled field trips to AT&T for job shadowing, the Fox Sports Southwest Studio and George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
To underscore the importance of academic excellence in our programs, we offered engaging and entertaining programs for all ages at the Club. Summer Brain Gain is a program with one-week modules with themed activities for elementary school, middle school and high school students. Summer coding camps in collaboration with The University of Texas at Dallas kept our preteen members interested with challenging gaming development skills, and a select group of teens earned their CISCO A+ certification in partnership with AT&T.
In addition to our traditional Club sites, we expanded BGCD programming to 10 Dallas ISD elementary schools due to the efforts of Vice President of Programming Wanda Nimer. The new school sites are Adelfa Callejo, John F. Kennedy, Martin L. King, Nancy Mosley, Pleasant Grove, Reinhardt, Robert McNair, Roger Q. Mills, Seagoville North and Stephen C. Foster.
It takes a team of talented people to make BGCD such a success, and I would like to thank the entire staff for their dedication to our members. Their hard work has pushed BGCD to impact the lives of so many youth in the Greater Dallas area.
