DALLAS – Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas’ board member, Tom Ehlmann, was be inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame Wednesday, in Houston, Texas.
Each year, distinguished Boys & Girls Clubs alumni from around the country are selected to be recognized and celebrated for making major contributions in their professions and communities.
Ehlmann, who is president and general manager of NBC 5 KXAS-TV in Dallas, became a board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) in 2009.
Since then, he has and continues to advocate for Dallas youth, and he contributes to their academic, health, and personal development.
Ehlmann has a long history with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, having received his membership card in Missouri when he was 8 years old. As a member, if he wasn’t found in the gym, he was in the library, reading a book.
“I actually started playing basketball at The Club. That opened the door to me receiving a basketball scholarship from the University of Arizona and gaining the experiences that led me to where I am today,” Ehlmann said.
Under Tom’s tenure as a board member, BGCD has grown to a total of 23 Club sites all across Dallas and Navarro Counties. Currently, BGCD serves 6,500, yearly and impacts children ages 6-18 in the areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship.
“We are truly excited about Tom’s induction. His servant leadership to not only Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas but to Clubs all over the United States is indicative of his commitment to providing children with the safe space they need after school,” said Charles English, BGCD President and CEO.
